The much awaited Lok sabha Elections or the general elections dates have been announced by the Election Commission(EC) of India today. In some of the states of the country the Lok Sabha elections would be conducted in five phases starting from April 16th to May 13th. The counting of the votes will start from May 16th onwards.

The states where the elections will be conducted in five phases include J&K and UP.  The Lok Sabha Elections 2009 will be held in four phases in the state of Bihar,while Maharashtra and West Bengal will face three phase polling. In some states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, Assam, Manipur, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa the elections will be held in two phases. In the remaining 15 states and Union Territories the elections will be held in single phase.

This time an estimated 71.4 crore people are eligible for voting for the Lok sabha Elections 2009 which is an increase of 4.3 crores over the general elections in 2004. Different parties have started forming alliances and from now on the campaigning will be held in full force. So are you going to cast your vote this time?
