The waiting is finally over and today the Indian Railway Budget 2009-10 was presented in the parliament. Ms.Mamta Banerjee presented the railway budget for the fiscal year 2009-10.
Here are some of the highlights of the Indian Railway Budget 2009-10 :–
* To start with the railway budget 2009 new trains wherein 57 new trains are added to this year’s list. Some of them are superfast trains connecting some of the major routes in the country where there is a huge congestion in traffic.
* In the railway budget 2009-10, it has been proposed to develope 50 world class stations which will be based on public private partnership more. They will provide some of the international standard amenities to the passengers.
* It is clear that the railway budget 2009 has more focus on the services front and also on the fares. There has been no increase in passenger fares and freight rates. On the other hand there has been a slew of measures in which cheap tickets will be provided to the poor people, students and under privilege people.
* The unreserved ticketing system will now be expanded from 5000 terminals currently to 8000 terminals in the coming days.
* There is a proposal to provide railway tickets at 500 post offices across the country in the railway budget announced today.
* Various infotainment services along with some personalized services will be introduced soon in the Rajdhani and Shatabaddi express trains.
* Many non stop AC sleeper trains will be introduced soon which was announced in the railway budget 2009.
* In the railway budget 2009, it was announced that the tatkal scheme will be renewed and the tatkal booking timings has been reduced to 2 days and it will cost Rs 100 instead of Rs 150 earlier.
* Railways to provide special ambulance services in 6 major cities.
* The railway budget 2009 also proposes to build 1000 more reservation centers across 200 cities in India.
* There are plans to bring in automatic ticket vending machines in all major cities.
* Railway budget plans to introduce 1 doctor in all the long distance trains joining cities across cities.
* Railway budget has also announced to bring 10 more Garib rath trains soon and to build 53 new railway tracks.
* Railway Budget has announced Izzat Scheme where monthly ticket will be available at Rs 25 for all those people who earn just Rs 1500/month.
* Railway Budget plans to build rail coach factory in Kachrapara suited in West Bengal also a 1000 MW capacity power plant will be built in West Bengal.Kolkata metro will now be stretched till Barackpore.
Overall it was a populist Railway Budget which was presented today in the parliament. The Indian Inc has welcomes the unique railway budget presented today.
