NHPC IPO which went open from Aug 7th 2009 and the issue closed on Aug 12th 2009 has announced the share allotment status. Many people were eagerly waiting for the NHPC IPO share allotment from sometime. Just a little recap of the details of the IPO. NHPC is a state run mini Ratna company which opened for public on Aug 07 and closed on Aug 12th, 2009.NHPC IPO bid lot size was 175 equity share in the price band of Rs 30-36 each.
The wait is now over and the NHPC IPO allotment status has been out. You can check the status of your NHPC IPO application from these links.
NHPC IPO share allotment status.
NHPC share allotment.
For those who are eager to find out the criteria of the NHPC share allotment to every individual you can check the following link. NHPC IPO share allotment criteria. Just select NHPC Limited in the select company tab, in select category choose pub and finally give the number of shares you have applied for in applied category and hit on go button. The ratio of share allotment to shares applied in NHPC IPO is somewhere about 0.27. For eg if you applied for 4 lots or 700 shares there are good chances of you being allotted with 190 shares. It holds true for me atleast and many of my friends who applied the NHPC IPO.
Some people are panicking when they see no shares being allotted to them. You can post your application ID correctly which has 8 digits here and I’ll help everyone out. You need to check back coming here. The next big question is at what price is NHPC IPO going to get listed. Initially people were expecting it to list at Rs 50, but after the lackluster performance of Adani power IPO, people are expecting to make less gain on the opening date. A good strategy would be to book partial profits if you get returns of 15-20% on opening. You can hold a smaller quantity for long term gains.
NHPC being a Govt run company so its prospectus is looking good in long term even though its looks costly when compared to NTPC and the valuations of the company as of now. The IPO was subscribed 24 times. And coming to the date of listing of NHPC IPO, it can get listed on Sept 2nd or at the earliest of Sept 1st 2009. Some people are also waiting to see the refund in their bank account. We may have to wait a couple of more days to see that happening. You can post all your queries here and get them clarified here easily.
Update :- The NHPC IPO listing date has been confirmed as Sept 1st 2009. In a circular to BSE, NHPC has stated that the listing of NHPC IPO will be on Sep1st 2009.
Listing date :- 1st Sept 2009.
NSE symbol :- NHPC.
BSE Script Code :- 533098.
Category :- B Group.
An update on refund from NHPC IPO. Some people have already started getting the refund of money from NHPC IPO. I have received mine on Aug 28th through online transfer, 2009 just 3 days after the announcement of the NHPC IPO share allotment.Ideally all the money is refunded before the IPO gets listed in the secondary markets. So there is absolutely no need to panic.

1What do you think the NHPC share will open at? Also at what price should we sell our shares on the first day? Also as per the article above by you it says that the share price seems to hike in the long run. So what is the period of the long run?
Thanks.

2Given the dismal performance of Adani Power IPO, we should not expect too much from NHPC IPO. A decent gain of 15-20% should be good enough. If it opens anywhere between 44-46 you can sell off or keep a part of it. Long term could be anywhere between 6-12 months. Once all the plants of NHPC are operational then we can see good results. Check out all the options.

4Hi,
Thank you for the advise. For those who have not got the allotment is it advisable to do Intraday trading on NHPC on the first day. Or is it advisable to go for the Short selling on the same stock on the first day to book some profits.
What is the expected HIGH/LOW price for the same day or also what do you think the price it will open at and the price it will close at.
What do experts have to say on my concern?

5Hi Girvan,
Yah many of the people who applied for NHPC IPO have not got any shares. They can buy the stock on opening or once it comes down after the initial euphoria settles down. But they need to hold the NHPC stock for long term to get a sizeable return for their investment.
NHPC IPO is getting listed on Sep 1st 2009 in the B category of securities in NSE. If it start showing good fluctuation on the listing day then you can even do intra day trading in NHPC stock. If NHPC starts showing the tendency to come down then you can very well do short selling.
It would be little difficult to predict the exact high or low end price from now for NHPC stock on listing date. Let me know of any other query on NHPC IPO Listing.
Thanks

6@ Anil,
The refund process for NHPC IPO should ideally be over before the listing date. However, we have seen that in Adani power IPO too, the refund for some applicants were delayed. But you can be sure of the refund.

14Hi Viresh,
When I checked your application numbers at Karvy’s website to check if you had been alloted any NHPC shares, I got a message “Amount not realised and hence not considered for allotment.” That means the amount has not reached the concerned people. There could have been some error at the bank end in processing the check which you might have submitted to apply for NHPC shares online.
You can contact your bank authorities and check with them to get any more news from them. Hope that helps.
Thanks

21Hi,
I have purchased 500 shares@37.25 on 02/09/2009 hoping the price will go up the same day, if not the same day in two three days. I had purchased to book short term profit. But the price on BSE is going down day by day and is 35.25 now. Will the share price will still go down?
I want to sell some part of the shares@ 39/- In how many days will the share price shold reach 39/- The rest I want to retain and await till the price crosses 40/- How many days should this take.
Can someone throw some light on my queiries?

23Hi Viresh,
Well you can wait for 10 working days and then contact your nearest post office or better your broker to help you out with this. I see still many have not got their NHPC IPO refunds till now.
NHPC as written earlier is a stock for long term and in India the power sector has a lot of scope from here on. So its a hold for long term.

24Hi Girvan Doshi,
I guess the price of NHPC will settle down soon and then take a cue from the market to move up. Everyone of us is holding the stock to see some gains from it. It could be difficult to guess in how many days it will touch Rs 40. Anyways just hold it for now.
