Indian Stock markets opened up on a positive note on the very first trading session of the year 2010. As we all are aware of, the Indian stock markets are now opening at 9 AM instead of the regular 9.55 AM. Sensex and nifty remained on the positive territory the entire day. Led to auto and metal stock Sensex managed to gain 93 points to close at 52 week high of 17558 levels and Nifty closed at 5232 levels gaining 31 points.

The best performing stocks were Tata Motors which gained 4.5%, ACC gained 5.35%,M&M gained 4.55%. There was a block deal in RIL stock by LIC which purchased 25 million stocks at 5% discount to current market price. RIL ended the day in red today.JSW Energy got listed in the secondary markets with gains of 6% above its issue price of Rs 100 per equity stock. The stock finally ended the day at Rs 100 levels.

Markets managed to touch 20 month closing high today when it opened for the first day of the year. In the coming year, mid caps are expected to perform along with the stocks which have not performed in the last bull run which we witnessed in 2009.
